In case you didn't know, we love jackfruit. We really do. So when we spoke to nice folks at nivaala.co, an initiative whose objective is to treasure family recipes of yore using native ingredients, it was an obvious next step to collaborate and come up with The Jackfruit Project!

This is the second instalment in The Legume Project series that is a partnership between nivaala.co and The Soul Company India. While the first instalment of this quarterly series focused on rajma, the second one is all about our favourite fruit. Though technically not a legume, the jackfruit does deserve its own edit, owing to its many eccentricities - appearance, size, sturdiness against the elements, and its versatility. In this long format magazine (yes, it's physical and not an e-zine), we explore memories, anecdotes and recipes using this tremendous ingredient. Some of the recipes (and their creators) are:

  • Jackfruit Aachar by Varun Totlani, Head Chef at Masque Restaurant, Mumbai

  • Nati Tacos by Shriya Shetty (@chiashetts)

  • Phansachi Bhaji by Keertida Phadke (@keertidacooks on Instagram and co-founder of Eat With Better)

  • Kofta and Kheema by Sangeeta Khanna (@sangeetakhanna)

And many more recipes, in addition to an introduction by Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal, culinary chronicler, and a piece by Chef Thomas Zacharias on the significance of jackfruit in his life and memories.

It's only safe to assume that after reading so much about this humble fruit, you would want to try some of it so every package of The Jackfruit Edit comes with a box of our Jackfruit Original (Shreds) that you probably know all to well by now if you are reading it on this website. This is a limited edition zine, so we will only print as many copies as we get orders. Accepting pre-orders now, shipping begins on the 9th of September!
